You may have heard of the book “Jesus Calling,” written by Sarah Young. The book, which is a daily devotional, is a diary of the words God spoke to her. While we know that God’s Word is the ultimate authority of God’s voice, I do believe that He can speak to us. The devotional for March 15th goes like this:

    Listen to the love song that I am continually singing to you. I take great delight in you…I rejoice over you with singing. The voices of the world are a cacophony of chaos, pulling you this way and that. Don’t listen to those voices; challenge them with My Word. Learn to take mini-breaks from the world, finding a place to be still in My Presence and listen to My voice.

    There is immense hidden treasure to be found through listening to Me. Though I pour out blessings upon you always, some of My richest blessings have to be actively sought. I love to reveal Myself to you, and your seeking heart opens you up to receive more of My disclosure. Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

Zephaniah 3:17 – English Standard Version

The Lord your God is in your midst,
    a mighty one who will save;
he will rejoice over you with gladness;
    he will quiet you by his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing.

Matthew 7:7 – English Standard Version

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

My Prayer
Lord, you delight in me. You saved me. You rejoice over me. You love me and exalt over me with loud singing. You want me. What a comfort you are to me. Lord, help me to know continually the difference between Your voice and the voices that I hear elsewhere. Thank You for living inside of me. Help me to listen more to You and talk less.

As I contemplate the words written here, I am reminded of how much God loves us. We truly cannot comprehend the measure of His love and His great desire to spend time with us.

The world can be tough place to live sometimes – the noise, the people, the bad days, the illness, the loss. And it is because of this that Jesus continues to call us – Come unto me, My yoke is easy, My burden is light.

As this year started, I decided that my word for 2021 would be “worship,” and more specifically, to create an atmosphere of worship at all times. Taking a moment to stop in the midst of the day to just think about the Lord can make all the difference. When I do stop, He often gives me a word to sustain me, a word of hope and encouragement, or the answer to a situation that was difficult.

I encourage you to take those “minibreaks” to read a verse, think about the Lord, and meditate on Him. Play a worship song, think about Sunday’s sermon, and just talk to Jesus. Don’t overthink it but just talk to Him as a friend – and don’t be surprised when He’s right there, where He’s been waiting for you.
